Specialising in one-off bespoke locally made furniture; curtains, blinds and shutters, as well as mirrors and lighting, Hamiltons International has been trading for over 35 years, and relocated to Faversham last year.
Denise Knights, Interior Design Director at Hamiltons, discussed her business and the recent change of location “With retail being hit hard we have listened to our clients and sourced bespoke, quirky items for the home at prices that our clients can afford. We are also proud to offer free, ‘in showroom’ consultancies, meaning that bespoke interior design, perhaps previously seen as a luxury of only the wealthy, is now available to all. By discussing your project with us you will save time and costly mistakes. We relocated from Chislehurst a year ago and absolutely love being in Faversham!”
As Denise explains, keeping costs low for the customer is and essential part of her business. As all curtains and soft blinds are made on the premises, that allows them to keep prices low – in fact she estimates her charges are about half those of her high street competitors.
Now she is in Faversham, Denise has big plans for the local area. “I am keen to start hosting Interior Design workshops so that Swale can grow our own designers. I want to give young people who may not have the option of going to university the chance to study interior design. I truly believe that if you invest in the young you will be rewarded.”
Denise is thrilled to be entering the Swale Business Awards for the first time in 2018. She explained: “We want interior design and fabulous things available to all, even if that means teaching people how to design their own interiors. We support the local Swale economy as well as local manufactures. We donate to local schools and charities. Ultimately we are not just retailers and designers we are passionate about this industry surviving into the future.”
