For the last five years, Faversham-based Modus Construction Consultants have been building a portfolio of clients throughout London and the Home Counties that utilise them for independent Quantity Surveying services.
With five employees overseen by three directors, one of the biggest challenges for the firm has been the significant increase of work coming into the practice. Kate Miles, who works as a Business Administrator at Modus, discussed how they tackled this challenge: “I would say we are very much a victim of our own success. With the increase in workload, we initially thought about simply expanding our team, but instead decided to look within the organisation and upskill our existing employees to make sure we had the right people with the right skills to meet with this increasing demand. We also made the decision to recruit three trainee quantity surveyors.”
Keeping the team small is something that Modus views as an advantage, as it allows them to remain agile to provide services that are tailored to meet and exceed the expectations of clients. This also means that each project is managed, throughout its lifecycle, by one of the company’s Directors – giving a personalised and project specific service.
When asked why she felt that Modus should be recognised at 2018 Swale Business Awards, Kate replied: “Modus as a business is still in its infancy, we are only five years old, yet have already established an excellent reputation with a strong repeat client base and diversity in operating sectors. Modus is one of very few Quantity Surveying practices in the Swale district.
