For two decades now, Mr India has been providing authentic Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine with a modern twist from their base on the Isle of Sheppey. The Sheerness business is entering the 2018 Swale Business Awards after already picking up the prestigious title of “Chef of the Year” at the 2017 Bangladeshi Catering Association awards.
Soyfuz Zaman, Owner of Mr India, discussed what he felt set his restaurant apart from his competitors. “First of all, we are the only BCA award wining Indian & Bangladeshi restaurant in the Swale region. Our chef also featured as headline news on Bangladesh TV. Secondly, I would say that the experience at Mr India is like no other. I’m sure a lot of restaurants would like to say that but for us it is true. You need to come for yourself to understand see and taste the difference. Our menu is not a typical normal curry house it is unique with our authentic and modern twist.”
So popular is the restaurant that Soyfuz has many repeat customers coming to visit two or three times a week! They have also had a number of celebrity customers including former Eastenders, cast members from The Only Way Is Essex and Alan Titchmarsh with his ground force team.
When the business started twenty years ago it had six tables seating 26 customers. As their reputation grew it quickly became apparent that they were being forced to turn customers away due to lack of space. They expanded and now have 14 tables and can seat over fifty customers. They have also partnered with neighbours (and fellow Swale Business Awards entrant) The Shisha Bar so that customers can enjoy Shisha whilst waiting for their table.
So why does Mr India deserve to be Swale Business of the Year? Soyfuz thinks it is because they provide a different experience to other restaurants. “From Britain's favourite dish Korma, second favourite Tikka Massala to traditional ‘on the bone meat’, our exquisite recipes keep customers coming back for more. Add to that the fact that from the moment you walk in the door until the moment that you leave our customer service is second to none. We are the only Indian & Bangladeshi restaurant to have a shisha bar garden in the whole Kent. We are constantly innovating, we are the future of Indian and Bangladeshi food.”
