BB4 Hospitality

Based in the hamlet of Harty on the Isle of Sheppey, BB4 Hospitality is a family-led group of companies that includes award winning businesses The Ferry House Inn, Mocketts Farm Cottages and its events management and catering services division.

General Manager Jane Murtagh explains the unique offering that BB4 Hospitality brings to its clientel: “We’re immensely proud of our award-winning gastro pub, which scooped the Taste of Kent award for ‘Best Dining Pub/Bistro’ in 2018 for the second time. We also have the beautiful AA rosette Barn Restaurant, a range of B&B rooms – complete with award-winning breakfast – with six new guest rooms due to open in the next month in the newly built Coach House! There is a delightful cluster of 4-star self-catered farm cottages, not to mention various Event Suites suitable for a range of corporate and leisure events, weddings and awards ceremonies.

All of our businesses revolve around a “Field to Fork” ethos - a passion and commitment to delivering home-grown, home-reared, quality produce. This includes meats from our own family farm, fresh produce grown onsite in one of Kent’s largest kitchen gardens and even the gins and vodkas we serve, made from the grains grown on our farm.”

Jane also spoke about what she felt made BB4 Hospitality stand out from the competition: “We are all passionate about the food and service we offer our customers and strive to serve ingredients that are traceable and sustainable. We have a full-time team of gardeners looking after our three acres of land, which includes a considerable and well-established kitchen garden in which we grow our own fruit, herbs and vegetables. It is our aim that 60% of the food on the menu we serve comes from our own family farm or kitchen garden. If we cannot grow or rear it ourselves, we work with local producers within a 30-mile radius of our venue, minimising airmiles and taking the provenance of our food seriously. All of the flowers used in our decorations come from our own gardens throughout the year. We rear our own beef and game, and plant edible hedgerows for nuts and berries, which provide us with seasonal chutneys, pickles and jams year-round. Even our cocktails use syrups we have infused from our kitchen garden ingredients, as well as gins and vodkas made using grain grown on our family farm and distilled by The Copper Rivet Distillery in Chatham Dockyard.”

Concluding her application, Jane explained why she felt her business should be recognised at the Swale Business Awards: “We are a progressive and forward-thinking hospitality business, successfully operating in a geographically challenging location. We represent all that is ‘the heart of Kent’ in our ethos and values. We believe in our team and our vision to provide the best hospitality to our customers. The most important people to us are our team - our family. They deserve to win this award because everyone - from our 16 year old trainees, right through to our leadership team - are all working together everyday to do what they do, better than they did it the day before.  That passion and drive to be the best is why they deserve to be recognised at these awards.”
