Cook was founded in 1997 by Edward Perry and Dale Penfold.

Our aim was to produce remarkable food for your freezer and to do business differently from the crowd. Our founding statement was: To cook using the same ingredients and techniques that a good cook would use at home, so everything looks and tastes homemade. Easily said but not easily done. Our first two years were a mire of stress and disappointments as we strived to make the food delicious and prove the retail model worked. Through trial and error the food got better and better and our customer base grew. From one shop twenty years ago we now have 55 company owned and 33 franchised stores. We also supply the independent retail sector and it has been enormously rewarding to know that our brand is really supporting them in their ongoing battle with the big supermarkets.

We were one of the first certified B Corps in the U.K ,as we believe business should be used as a force for good in society. There are more than 1,500 B Corps across the world and we are all united in the belief that business success is not measured purely by profit. It’s about creating a society with equality of opportunity, a healthy environment, strong communities and work with dignity and purpose.

Our kitchen here in Sittingbourne employs 300 people making 500,000 meals a week. Helping the less fortunate, through our work with Caring Hands in Chatham, and employing ex-offenders from Swaleside prison, who just need another chance in life, is just the start. Business can change the world.
