Dave Wood initially started Farmwood Mechanical and Electrical Services Ltd in his front room in January, 2002. Since then it has steadily grown.
Based in Sittingbourne, the company offers service, repairs and installation of industrial, commercial and domestic ventilation systems including positive input ventilation which eliminates condensation problems in houses and heat recovery units, heating, solar thermal and air conditioning systems.
It employs 22 people, including Mr Wood’s son, Nathan, who is the technical director, his wife Sue, company secretary, and daughter Karla Robinson, health and safety and procurement manager.
The firm also provides an advanced modern apprenticeship scheme with IPS International.
Once qualified, all apprentices have been offered, and accepted, full-time jobs.
Farmwood has accrued accreditations which has in turn allowed them to secure work with major companies across the south of England.
One of Farmwood’s new procedures, which have proved successful on the service side of their works, is to offer three-year fixed-price contracts, which benefits the customer and secures long-term work for the company.
Reflecting its continual excellent customer service it recently won a five-year service and site services contract with UK based multi-million pound manufacturer, Nuaire Ltd.
Its main objective now is to continue to offer a service package tailored individually for each prospective client with first class customer service at all times.
While the company may have grown and is continuing to grow, it still has the personal touch a family business can offer.
Mr Wood said: “We regularly contact all of our clients to ensure they are happy with the service we provide and ask if there is anything they feel we could do to improve. Every invoice sent out includes a customer satisfaction form to return for review.
“All our highly-qualified engineers dress smartly with Farmwood logo clothing, and identification, they are polite and courteous at all times.”
