Farmwood Mechanical & Electrical Services are proof that the Swale Business Awards can be a force for good in the local business community. Last year’s runners up for Swale Business of the Year, the team was inspired to improve their business and drive it forward with the target of being named the 2016 Swale Business of the Year in mind!
With Managing Director Dave Anthony Wood at the helm, Farmwood install, service and repair heating and air conditioning equipment in the industrial, commercial and domestic sector. They specialise in energy saving heat recovery systems. Dave discussed how the business set itself apart from its competitors: “We are backed by almost every main ventilation manufacturer, putting us in an elite bracket for service and reliability. We continue our own investment and research on how we can offer smart integration of ventilation systems not currently on offer the UK.”
Farmwood work hard to ensure that they have the best staff working for them, offering excellent salaries and work packages, replacement vans every two to three years, smart clothing and high-class tools. They also offer training and are very committed to internal promotion. They offer an “open door policy” to all staff, meaning everyone from the apprentices up can take time to talk with Dave.
Dave spoke about why he felt that this year Farmwood should be Swale Business of the Year: “When we were the runner up at last year’s awards, we asked ourselves ‘why didn’t we come first? How can we improve our business?’ We then took a very close look at the whole company and how we functioned. We implemented tweaks and changes and noticed an improvement in individual productivity, which allowed more time to work on reports and on product research. It also meant more time for training and to speak directly with staff and clients. Being able to spend a few moments and take time talking to our staff and clients rather than communicating electronically was not only good for business but increased morale considerably! We strive to be the best and it would be a huge achievement after 14 years of trading as a family company to be recognised as the Swale Business of the Year.”
