Based at Brogdale Farm, The Tiddly Pomme has championed local and artisan products, providing an outlet for Kent cidermakers, microbreweries, vineyards and liqueur makers. Not content with simply championing others, they produce their own artisan cider, Woolly Pig, which is made by hand using apples and pears from Brogdale.
Under the leadership of Director Debbie Hickman, The Tiddly Pomme had seen several years of consistent increase on the retail side, so the decision was made to focus on the craft cider side of the business, which showcases the site and the shop. The shop continues to flourish and benefits from being uniquely positioned on a site that is both a national visitor centre and is accessible for everyone.
Debbie spoke about how The Tiddly Pomme at Brogdale helped contribute to the local community “We are members of Faversham Business Partnership, Faversham Rewards Scheme and Visit Faversham, and we run stalls at local events and festivals, as well as wedding bars and supplying fresh cider on sale or return for fundraising events. We also stock locally wherever we can.”
The Tiddly Pomme plans for the future including growing the footfall to the site in conjunction with the farm managers and the other tenants; continuing to make and supply their own fresh artisan cider and to promote other local artisan cidermakers and microbrewies; and to entice visitors to the site by running regular events and markets and offering an enhanced visitor experience.
Debbie spoke about why she felt her business deserved to be recognised at the Swale Business Awards “I think we have reached a point as a business where we are in tune with our environment and the local market. We have weathered many trading ‘seasons’, both good and bad, and whilst we are still learning and evolving I feel that we have carved our niche now. We have always consistently and quietly championed a lot of other local fledgling businesses, offering a low-margin outlet for their products while they have established themselves and their brands. The Swale Business Awards would be great and welcome exposure for us.”
