No Place Like Home

Our next entrant has a long and successful history with the Swale Business Awards. No Place Like Home originally entered the awards in 2016, when the business picked up the Customer Service and Commitment Award. They were shortlisted as finalists in 2017, and in 2018 they picked up the Customer Service and Commitment Award for the second time. Managing Director Alison Carter is hoping to once again see success at the Swale Business Awards.

“We provide personalised, private companionship and care service for senior residents in the Swale and Canterbury area,” she explained. “As a business we work to serve our local community and beyond providing bespoke, practical, emotional and expert support to allow each of our clients to make the most out of later life.”

Alison founded the business in 2013 and over the last six years it has grown to employ 31 people. The focus of the business is improving the quality of life for clients, allowing them to stay in their own homes and thus maintain their independence and dignity.

“Our Personal Assistants offer companionship in a variety of ways,” Alison elaborated. “This could include escorted social trips and visits; help in the home and garden; help with pets; help with personal business affairs and paperwork, and personal care. We offer respite care and also financial planning advice.”

Due to the nature of care work, staff turnover can be high. Alison feels strongly that maintaining a consistent Personal Assistant is a key to providing the best possible service for a client, so places a huge emphasis on attracting and retaining her staff. Some of the actions she undertakes to ensure she retains staff include focusing on employee wellbeing and giving them paid ‘downtime’ such as the No Place Like Home PA Pamper Day.

Alison closed her application by stating: “We are proud to be a business in Swale. We provide a unique service to our local community, allowing its residents to make the most of their later life and as such we define our success more in terms of our customers’ satisfaction than financial gains. Even just entering the award brings credibility and recognition for the whole team who work so incredibly hard, and winning would really highlight that this hard and extremely important work is being recognised.”
