Established in 2016, Saxon Shore is a local, family estate agency based in Faversham. Operated by a brother and sister team whom grew up in Faversham, the business operates with the ethos that they are a part of the local community and therefore should be heavily involved with it. Saxon Shore support numerous local community events, such as Faversham Garage Safari, the Faversham Literary Festival and The Faversham Hop Festival. In addition to this they have also run community events to raise funds for The Faversham Creek Trust, The Faversham Community Christmas Lights, and bereavement charity, Holding On Letting Go.
Director Liz Jeffrey spoke about how the business was revolutionising the estate agency sector: “When we first started we had to work around the public perception that an estate agent needs a shop window in order to sell houses, and that just because we didn’t have a bricks and mortar premises didn’t mean we were an online agent. We have addressed these challenges by utilising our website and social media as our ‘shop window’ and building our own reputation locally as being honest, approachable estate agents who will give an honest opinion on current market conditions.”
The businesses is still growing and as such all staff need to “muck in”. The flip side of this is that Liz doesn’t believe in job titles and offers her team flexibility and higher salaries from the competition. Unlike most estate agent firms, Saxon Shore do not pay commission and instead focus on teamwork to make a sale rather than having agents compete with each other.
Liz closed her application by saying: “We believe we should win this award as we dared to try something different and we wanted to bring a ‘fresh approach’ to estate agency. We have turned this from a concept to a working model within a year. We provide a premium service for a standard fee with no hidden extras. Saxon Shore’s strong focus on excellent customer service is key. Our business model is working well as we consistently sell our properties swiftly. Our five-star reviews support this.
